Simon makes his point
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Simon Davies made a sparkling full debut against the Ukraine as Wales kept alive their slim hopes of World Cup qualification with a battling 1-1 draw.
Simon took a his place in a Welsh midfield alongside Gary Speed, Mark Pembridge and Ryan Giggs, while hot prospect Jason Koumas entered the fray after only six minutes for Nathan Blake.
Wales suffered a setback two minutes before the break when Zubov fired Ukraine ahead, but Mark Hughes’ team responded with what the Blackburn striker described as an ‘extraordinary performance’ to snatch a point with an 80th minute leveller from Pembridge.
Simon enjoyed a fine game in the middle of the park and his team were unlucky not to record full points from the encounter. Goalkeeper Shovkovsky made an injury-time block from Giggs, and the Manchester United man earlier hit a post from a curling free-kick.
For Simon, it was a dream end to a defining season in his short career — it looks onwards and upwards all the way for the young Spur with style.
"It was fantastic," beamed Simon. "I loved every minute of it. It was a great game to play in, an open game and either side could have won it.
"In the end it was a good point for us, especially after the disappointment of losing against Poland. We really needed a result there, so to bounce back after that was good.
"This has to be the biggest achievement of my career so far. Ever since I was a young boy growing up watching Wales I’ve dreamt of winning that first cap. I suppose you could say it’s capped a perfect end to the season.
Sergei Rebrov’s prediction of an 80,000 crowd were some way off the mark — the attendance was logged as 33,000 — and they were seemingly none too happy.
"I didn’t really have a lot of chance to talk to Sergei, although we swapped shirts. We were told that there were riots outside. The crowd were really getting on the their backs and we were told to wait in the dressing room for a while afterwards."
