Simon: I wanted to score
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Simon Davies insisted he was looking for another goal, not a penalty, after he was booked for diving in the most controversial incident at Charlton on Tuesday night.
Our match winner was sent clear by Teddy Sheringham on the hour and appeared to be clipped by Charlton goalkeeper Dean Kiely as he flicked the ball around him.
However, Kiely reacted angrily and referee Alan Wiley raced over to show Simon a yellow card.
It would be completely out of character for for the unassuming Welsh star to go over like that though and he was clearly upset at the decision.
He said: "I had every intention of going around the goalkeeper and scoring. I don't take penalties and I wanted to score again.
"As I went past him my right leg went from behind me. When I turned around the referee was pointing and was was thinking 'what's he pointing at?' but he was pointing at me, came over and said I'd dived.
"I just told him I wanted to score as many goals as I can and I thought I had a good chance. It was an acute angle but it was a chance to score. I think he made contact but never mind, you have to move on."
At least he had the satisfaction of scoring the winner, a sublime strike after a one-two with Teddy Sheringham after only seven minutes.
Simon added: "It was a great to get the winning goal and the lads played really well out there. We defended superbly and hit them on the break and could have had a few more in the second half.
"We lost this game last season but we more than matched them tonight and asked them the questions instead.
"It's given us a good platform to build on but now we've got to go out and win our homes games."
