Sick in Kiev

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Oyvind Leonhardsen and Sergei Rebrov played out a World Cup stalemate in Kiev — leaving Ukraine struggling and Norway just about out of the qualifying picture for the 2002 finals in Japan and Korea.

The Spurs team-mates both needed a win, Leo to keep Norway’s faint hopes alive, Sergei to help close the gap on second-placed Belarus.

It wasn’t the best of games as both sides struggled to create chances. Sergei’s famed partnership with Andrei Shevchenko didn’t really fire on the day and when it did, Norway keeper Thomas Myhre was fine form.

Indeed, Leo arguably had the best chance of the match when a typical run from deep found him latch onto John Carew’s low cross, in the clear and 18 yards out, but he screwed his shot wide.

The result left Ukraine two points behind Belarus in third with Norway eight points adrift of second spot.

Ukraine coach Vladimir Veremeyev said: “We know that the Poles won tonight and have run far ahead and that we can only fight for second place. But we will definitely fight for this place.”

Sergei could now come face-to-face with another Spurs team-mates as Simon Davies travels to Kiev with Wales on Wednesday. Norway play host to Belarus.
