Sherwood on imports
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Tim Sherwood has called for a limit to the number of foreign players in the Premiership ahead of Saturday's clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Our stand-in skipper urges the Football Association to introduce measures to curb the influx and protect the futures of home grown players.
"There are too many foreign players in the League," Sherwood told the Evening Standard. "It is stopping youngsters coming through. There are some very good foreign players over here, including those at Tottenham, but sooner or later the numbers are going to have to be capped because it is not benefiting the youngsters.
"When I first started playing the matches were capped by limiting the number of overseas players and they should go back to that, otherwise it will kill the growth of the English game. At Spurs we are giving kids a chance."
Meanwhile, George Graham is likely to give a few of the 'kids' a chance at Stamford Bridge. "I just wish I could play something like my first X1 at Chelsea," said George. "But circumstances dictate that I can't and that is why I have turned to the club's young players.
"They have talent, but it is raw talent. It is untried. They are going to have to grow up very quickly. It is as simple as that. I have no other option."
Anthony Gardner, Simon Davies, Matthew Etherington and Alton Therwell all feature in the squad.
