Sheff Utd 2-2 Spurs (agg 2-3) - Mauricio's verdict
28 January 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino spoke of his pride after reaching the final of the Capital One Cup after a dramatic semi-final, second leg at Sheffield United on Wednesday night.
And there was a special mention for our 5,500 travelling fans, described as ‘brilliant’ by Mauricio at Bramall Lane.
We looked in complete control after Christian Eriksen’s superb free-kick in the first half put us 1-0 up on the night and 2-0 up on aggregate.
After creating a host of chances and failing to find a second goal, the Blades fought back to lead 2-1 with two goals in as many minutes from Che Adams levelling it up on aggregate.
It wasn’t over though. As has so often been the case this season, we managed to find an answer late in the game as Harry Kane picked out Christian and the Dane finished calmly under pressure to book our place against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday, March 1.
“I have to congratulate our players and our supporters, they were brilliant tonight,” said Mauricio. “I’m happy for them and happy for everyone who loves Tottenham.
“It was a difficult game but I think if you analyse the two matches we deserved to go through to the final.
“Football can change quickly. When you dominate the game, create chances and don’t give the opposition the opportunity to create chances, then you need to kill the game.
“After that, everything changed and we gave the opponent the opportunity to come back into the game. At that point it’s not tactical, not physical, but emotional. Everything is possible at that time.
“I’m very proud. I know it’s important to get to the final and I’m happy for everyone. We want to develop our style and create something special and this is our opportunity.”
