Shake on it? Dele and Harry appreciate each other's talents

Between them, they’ve been responsible for 18 of our 20 Premier League goals since the turn of the year – no wonder Dele Alli and Harry Kane are egging each other on to score even more!

While striker Harry has rattled in 11 top flight strikes so far in 2017, including hat-tricks in 4-0 home wins against West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City, midfielder Dele has contributed seven goals of his own to the cause – his memorable headed brace in the 2-0 triumph over league leaders Chelsea on January 4 chief among them.

In fact, only Gareth McAuley’s own goal against the Baggies on January 14 and Heung-Min Son’s well-taken equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Manchester City seven days later haven’t come from the England international duo, but you won’t find either one getting carried away.

Rather, they’ve been focusing on each other’s qualities, with Dele adamant that Harry is about far more than just hitting the target, while Harry prefers to highlight the importance of Dele’s goals to our Premier League challenge.

“It’s not just his goalscoring – Harry holds up play and he gets involved in all the link-ups. He’s an unbelievable striker and it’s a pleasure to play alongside him,” smiled Dele, whose elaborate handshake celebration with the forward (above) went viral on social media after our latest triumph against Everton at White Hart Lane at the weekend.

“He had a few chances to get another hat-trick on Sunday and I’m sure he’ll be kicking himself that he didn’t get three, but I think that shows what sort of player he is – he gets two goals but he’s not happy with it, he wants more, so it’s definitely important to have players like that in your team.

“As long as he carries on scoring, he’s a great part of the team but it’s not just that – he’s a leader from the top as well. As I said, it’s a pleasure to keep playing in the team with him.”

With that high praise ringing in his ears, home-grown striker Harry spoke glowingly about his team-mate in return, recognising how the steady flow of goals coming from Dele is proving very beneficial to us this season.

“He’s doing well and it was an important goal in the end against Everton because it proved to be the match-winner,” he said.

“It was a great little finish, a great ball by Winksy to set him up, and it was an important goal – something that he’s used to popping up with.

“As a midfielder you’ve got to keep chipping away with goals and assists and Dele got an assist and a goal against Everton, which was vital.

“Hopefully he can stay on top form because he’s a fantastic player.”
