Sergei still in plans

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle insists Sergei Rebrov is still very much part of his plans.

Those questioning the Ukrainian striker's future at the Lane were handed more ammunition when he was substituted for Steffen Iversen at half-time in Saturday's 1-1 draw against West Ham.

But the boss declared: "He's a Tottenham player now and I see no reason why that should change. It's as simple as that.

"We've spoken privately on many occasions. We trying to get the best for him and the best for ourselves to get him back to good form.

"Whatever you've heard from outside, I don't take much notice of it because it's not true."

Glenn pointed out that it was all about tactics that Sergei was withdrawn - tactics that ultimately worked when Steffen created Teddy Sheringham's goal within seven minutes of entering the fray.

He added: "I just made a tactical decision to bring Steffen on and it didn't happen on the day for Sergei. That happens in games and he's got a big enough character.

"He's gone off to play for his country now and that means a lot to him. So if he does well there this sort of thing will be out of his veins when he comes back.

"He knows he didn't play too well, but there's other games and there's still the season to be finished.

"Sergei's got great talent, I've seen it on the training ground and he just needs to reproduce it. He had a chance and it didn't happen, but it will happen for him in other games."

Indeed, Glenn suggested a goal would make all the difference.

He said: "I think a goal when he comes on from the bench would make a big difference to him - with a goal out there you would have seen a different Sergei.

"It is about confidence this game and I'm not going to knock Sergei - his attitude has been really refreshing.

"It's been difficult for him, frustrating. We've spoken, I had a chat with him before he went off to his international game.

"It might just be a matter of something clicking for him, I think that might be a goal here or there and it will come back for him. He's not become a poor player overnight."
