Sebastien Bassong had contrasting emotions after Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
The defender felt we did enough to win the game – but admitted to no little sense of relief after Heurelho Gomes foiled Didier Drogba from the penalty spot in injury time to preserve a point.
Sebastien was particularly impressed with our first half performance as Roman Pavlyuchenko fired us into a 1-0 lead at the Lane.
Drogba entered the fray from the bench at half-time and helped his side gain more a footing in the game. He equalised in the 70th minute before being denied from the spot.
“As they missed a penalty right at the end I don’t feel too disappointed but I thought we could have won the game,” said Seb, in fine form since coming back into the side against Werder Bremen.
“The first half was brilliant, we got after them, pressurised them and got ahead. We played well and when they put Drogba on, then Lampard on, we had to expect that pressure. We did well.
“When you look at the way we played, that’s why we’re disappointed not to win and we have to be that way. Perhaps we could have finished it off in the first half.
"One thing’s for sure, we really wanted to win this game.”
