Seattle vs Spurs - Kasey expects exciting game
Sat 19 July 2014, 11:44|Tottenham Hotspur
Former goalkeeper Kasey Keller is intrigued to see who comes out on top as two of his former clubs prepare to face each other today.
MLS side Seattle Sounders, with whom Kasey finished his playing career three years ago, are our hosts for the first match of our pre-season tour of the USA and Canada at 1pm local time (9pm UK time), with a healthy crowd expected at CenturyLink Field for what will be Mauricio Pochettino’s first game in charge.
Kasey, who made 99 appearances for us in all competitions between 2001 and 2005, still has his finger on the pulse at Sounders thanks to his current media work.
And while he acknowledges that the ongoing league campaign in North America means the hosts will have the upper hand in terms of match practise, he believes an exciting contest is in store.
“Everybody hopes it’s going to be a good game,” said Kasey, who also represented Leicester City, Borussia Monchengladbach and Fulham during his playing career.
“Sounders are in the middle of their season so obviously if anybody’s not quite where they want to be then they’re not going to risk playing them.
“Spurs are obviously at the beginning of pre-season, they’ll have some guys coming off the World Cup and perhaps some younger members of the squad who are looking to impress.
“Because of all that it can be hard to truly judge too much out of these games, although some of the US-based players who have never experienced being in a match with a Premier League side are going to be very motivated.”
