Scott deserved England honour - Daws

Michael Dawson paid tribute to Scott Parker after his team-mate was named England captain for Wednesday night's friendly against Holland.

Stuart Pearce handed the midfielder the honour of leading the team out at Wembley and he played the full 90 minutes as the Three Lions suffered a late 3-2 loss to the highly-rated Dutch.

In doing so, he became only the eighth Spur to captain England and the first since Sol Campbell against the Czech Republic back in November, 1998.

Michael, who knows all about captaincy having led us out on many occasions, said it 'couldn't have happened to a better person'.

"Everyone knows how highly we all think of Scotty at Spurs and what a signing he’s been for us, sitting in there in front of the back four," said Michael.

"I watched a lot of games when I was out injured and saw from the sidelines exactly what he brings to the team.

"He’s been outstanding for us all season and thoroughly deserved to be recognised. He's a top-class player and a top-class person."
