Ryan relishing pre-season practice

It’s fitness first in pre-season, according to Ryan Fredericks.

The 21-year-old right-back has seen game time in three of our four first team pre-season friendlies to date after garnering valuable senior experience during a loan spell at Championship side Millwall in the second half of last term.

Named in the squad for tonight’s Spurs XI fixture at Cambridge United, the young defender has emphasised how playing matches and training hard puts players in the best position to start the campaign.

“Pre-season is all about trying to get fit,” said Ryan, who has made four senior competitive appearances for us to date – all in the Europa League.

“The Tour to America and Canada was useful and it was good to be involved as a substitute against Seattle Sounders and Chicago Fire. When I played I thought I did alright and although we’re obviously getting back into the swing of things I enjoyed it out there.

“It was quite humid and in that environment it can be hard to catch your breath when you’re making runs.

“But that’s what you want at this time of year. These different tests get you fit quicker.”
