Ryan relishes advanced role

Ryan Mason relished the chance to play a more attacking role against Everton last weekend.
The central midfielder was pushed further forward from his usual deeper-lying role as we took on the Toffees at White Hart Lane and found himself with a couple of shooting chances either side of half-time.
Unfortunately, the home-grown grafter was unable to find a way past visiting goalkeeper Tim Howard and the game ended without score.
Nevertheless, Ryan said he enjoyed revisiting a role he previously fulfilled during his time in our Academy – and the creative licence that goes with it.
“As long as I’m out on the pitch I’m looking to give my all and contribute to the team,” said the 24-year-old, who is with the senior England squad this week for matches against San Marino and Switzerland.
“It was nice to get the freedom to attack against Everton, especially as it was a home game. It was good to make runs forward and try to impact the game in the final third.
“I spent a lot of my younger years playing off the striker, but in the last year or so I’ve been playing a deeper role which I’ve enjoyed as well. Like I said, though, as long as I’m out on the pitch I’m happy.”
