Ruben's pride

Ruben Lameiras said our Under-21s were driven by the fantastic support at the Lane in Friday's derby victory against Arsenal.

The midfielder stole the show as we dominated from start to finish against the Gunners.

Ruben’s quick feet in and around the penalty area were a feature throughout and led to the key moment of the match in the 28th minute as he beat two defenders to go through on goal before being hauled down by Arsenal skipper Isaac Hayden, who was sent off.

Souleymane Coulibaly converted the penalty and it was one-way traffic from there as goalkeeper Matt Macey kept the scoreline to 1-0 until six minutes from time, when Harry Winks curled home for 2-0.

“Everyone wanted to win, we were all focused and determined to do a good job for the fans,” said Ruben.

“The atmosphere was amazing and the fans were class, that helped us. We felt the support and we wanted to do them proud. In the end I thought we dominated and it was a good win for us.

“On a personal level, it’s fantastic when you get good feedback but you have to keep your feet on the ground, keep going and try to do better in the next game.”

That game arrives on Monday, when the Under-21s travel to Sunderland – coincidently, the same night the respective first teams clash in the Premier League at the Lane.
