Radek Cerny isn't surprised his Czech Republic compatriot David Rozehnal has been an instant hit after switching Paris for Tyneside. The central defender joined Newcastle from Paris St Germain this season and has played in all eight of their matches so far in the Barclays Premier League.
Formerly of FC Bruges and Sigma Olomouc in the Czech Republic, Rozehnal has 35 caps to his name, the latest in the 3-0 win against Germany that secured their place at Euro 2008.
Radek, set to start in Paul Robinson’s injury absence, said: “I remember when he started in the Czech Republic and his improvement was so quick that he moved to Paris St Germain and then the manager selected him for the national team and he’s played just about every game since.
“When the manager started in charge of the national team he took lots of young players like Petr Cech and Rozehnal, Rosicky is another.
“He’s important for the national team, has 35 caps already and has played very well for Newcastle.”
