Routledge ready to roll

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

With a solid pre-season now completed, Wayne Routledge feels the squad is in good shape to begin the business of competing for Premiership points - starting at Portsmouth on Saturday.

A close season signing from Crystal Palace, the speedy winger has featured strongly over the preparation period, starting three games in our successful Peace Cup voyage along with the games against Reading and Porto.

"Pre-season has been good, we have played a lot of high profile games and the results have gone really well for us," considered the England under-21 international. "Individually it has gone quite well for me and I just can't wait for Saturday."

Such has been the quality of Wayne's performances so far, it is clear the settling in process has not been a prolonged one and he looks like a player who has been here some time.

"It is nice to get a compliment like that! I just enjoy playing football and when I am playing, it is difficult to explain, I just try to play my natural game. With the players we've got here it has made it really easy for me to settle in and just play football. That is what we are about.

"Obviously with no disrespect to where I came from, I am now at a bigger club. This has helped me with my game and, once the season begins, hopefully I can be a help to the other players. If we can help each other it can only be good for the team."

Like the whole squad and management, Wayne was suitably impressed with the turn-out and support given the boys at Saturday's friendly against Porto.

"When I came here I was told about the passion of the supporters and they proved this on Saturday. A full house for a friendly is pretty much unheard of and is not something I'm used to.

"What they give to all the players is tremendous and can only be good for us all."

After training on Monday, Wayne did a spot of overtime with Edgar Davids - a player he hopes he will continue to learn from over the forthcoming seasons

"Edgar has come here and is here to help the players in the squad. Any little bits and pieces he can show us can only be of benefit. A big reason why I came is because I felt there are players I can learn from and that was shown today.

"Everybody is looking forward to Saturday now and it will be a big game for everyone with it being the first game of the season. I can see no reason why we can't get the points, we don't expect an easy game, but everybody is confident with the way we are shaping up."
