Robbie's sneaky feeling
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Robbie Keane says he had a 'sneaky feeling' that Birmingham goalkeeper Andy Marriott did not notice him trotting around behind him as he prepared to clear his lines early in Saturday's game.
Just five minutes were on the clock when Robbie gave chase to a through ball that the visiting keeper easily fielded. With time constraints now on goalkeepers to release from hands, it is the habit of many to put the ball to ground before clearing up field.
Robbie admits that lurking behind is an often used ploy of his - the difference being this time that Marriott did not notice him and paid the price as the striker dashed in front of him to steal the ball and steered it into an empty net.
"I just had a feeling," reflected Robbie, back at Spurs Lodge. "Before that he kept just kicking it out but, if you watch every other game, I always do it and the keepers always seem to see me.
"Fortunately for me he didn't see me. I just had a sneaky feeling he was going to put it down and, lucky for me, he did do it," he added, before conceding that he harbours some sympathy for the keeper.
"It's not nice for a goalkeeper to have it happen to him, but that's the way it goes sometimes. It was unfortunate for him and fortunate for us. I can't complain."
Meanwhile, Robbie agreed that the the win against the Blues was definitely a welcome one.
"Certainly was. Obviously the last few weeks haven't gone particularly well for us and it was important that we got the three points.
"We played well in the first half, the second half they came forward a bit and, lucky enough, with a great goal by Gus we got the three points."
