Robbie Keane is looking forward to catching up with his first manager in professional club football when Brighton arrive at the Lane for our FA Cup 3rd round encounter on Saturday.
Brighton boss Mark McGhee was in charge at Wolves when Robbie introduced himself to English football back in 1997 and the striker remains grateful for being handed the opportunity.
"He was my first manager and the one who gave me my debut," reflected Robbie, currently the scorer of 99 goals in his club career. "I've got a lot of respect for him and he is a good man. He looked after me from when I made my debut to the time he left and I have great admiration for him."
It was McGhee who introduced Robbie to the role of playing just off the front that he so enjoys to this day if it means being more involved in the game.
"I was a striker in the youth team and did really well. He put me just behind the front two and sometimes up front. Most of my first year I played behind and in the second year I played up top.
"He gave me that No.10 role which, as a young lad just starting in the first team, I really enjoyed.
"Mark has always done well as a manager and it is no surprise because of the way he is. It will be nice to see him on Saturday as I haven't seen Mark for a long time.
"He likes his teams to play football and score goals. I'm sure it will be an exciting game but it is one we have to look at and be looking to get a good win."
Not being one for stats, Robbie was not aware until this week that he is one goal off the 100 milestone and reveals that Press Officer John Fennelly was bearer of the news via text message.
"It would be nice to get it against Brighton, I didn't realise until Fenners texted me from McDonalds the other day to tell me I had 99. If I do score the 100 it will be extra special for me, but the most important thing is to win."
