Clive Allen saluted an excellent response from his Reserve side after they returned to their usual winning ways against West Ham at Bishop's Stortford on Monday evening. His young team were on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline last time out against an experienced Reading side - seven of which featured in the FA Cup against Manchester United on Saturday. But there were no signs of a hangover from that reverse and the boys swept into a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes with the goals coming from skipper Charlie Lee and Jake Livermore.
"Yes it was what we want, it was a lesson learned from last week when we came up against a good side and were punished for mistakes," said Clive. "I thought the reaction was excellent, we've talked about it, watched a lot of footage and the boys went about it in the right way.
"The first half performance was very good, the way we moved the ball, created chances and took a two-goal lead. It can sometimes make it a difficult situation for the second half, with dropping off and giving them the initiative.
"We came under pressure, but ran out winners and I felt deservedly so."
