Ricketts seeks happy return

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Bolton hot-shot Michael Ricketts is eager to take the field at the Lane for the Worthington Cup quarter-final, but cannot be totally sure his manager won't decide to rest him.

Ricketts, scorer of 12 goals this season and one here last week, is aware that manager Sam Allardyce's priority is Premieship points, but hopes the advanced stage of the competition will sway his thinking.

"I don't think the same sides will be playing this time as last," said Ricketts, looking ahead to the big game. "Glenn likes to rest people and our manager likes to rest people. But you never know, it's the quarter-final stage, they could field the same teams and hopefully it will be a different outcome!"

We pointed out to Ricketts that Glenn has resisted too much chopping and changing in the Worthington Cup, viewing it as the first available route to Europe.

"Haven't they? We had a mixture of our first and reserve sides against Southampton's first team and beat them, but our first team couldn't beat their first team in the league so you never know.

"We obviously want to win it, but the league is a more pressing matter."

Looking back on the exciting league encounter, Ricketts, who scored an impressive opener, hints that he would sacrifice a bit of the entertainment for a result reversal.

"It was a good game for the spectators but we lost. Tuesday is going to be a different occasion and hopefully we'll come away with a win."

Ricketts has surprised many this season, the former Walsall man taking the Premiership by storm. However, he has not entirely surprised himself.

"No, not really. I always knew I can play football and I've just been given a chance to prove it at a higher level."

Let's hope Ricketts is a better goalscorer than he is tipster. We asked him for a prediction on the Trotters' return to the Lane.

"Bolton win! 1-0," smiled the hitman. With him playing? "Hopefully!"
