Reto aiming high
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Reto Ziegler has high hopes as Switzerland prepare to kick-off their World Youth Championship campaign in Holland on Sunday.
One of the finds of the Premier League with his 31 appearances for us last term, Reto, still only 19, is confident Switzerland can make an impact in the tournament.
Open to players born on or before January 1, 1985, Switzerland also include Arsenal’s Phillipe Senderos in a squad that reached the last four of the European Under-19 Championships last summer.
They face reigning champions Brazil, Nigeria and South Korea as they look to finish in the top two of Group F to guarantee a place in the last 16, although four third-placed teams will also progress.
Reto - who broke into the senior Swiss squad last season and now has three caps to his name - can barely wait.
“My dream is to be World champion and we have a good team, a lot of players who play in other countries and we have a feeling that we can be champions,” he said.
“We reached the semi-finals of the European Championships last season and lost to Turkey. We have a chance and I hope we reach the semi-finals or final.
“It’s a tough group but we’ve been together for about five years so we know we have nothing to be afraid of.
“The games will be very different. A lot of players from Nigeria play in Europe, so perhaps they will play in that style. African players are strong and we know about Brazil but we have to have the confidence to get through the group and go from there.”
Reto faces South Korea first on Sunday, Brazil next Wednesday and Nigeria on Saturday week, June 18.
