FA PREMIER RESERVE LEAGUE
Wimbledon Reserves 0-0 Spurs Reserves
Chris Hughton's reserve outfit opened their account in the FA Premier Reserve League on Wednesday night - not that the manager was over-impressed.
Hughton was happy enough with the point, especially after a disappointing performance and defeat in the reserves' opener at Coventry a fortnight ago, but far from happy with the display at Sutton United.
Another strong second string with Ian Walker, Ramon Vega, Luke Young, Simon Davies, Gary Doherty and Matthew Etherington all starting found it tough going against a hard-working Wimbledon outfit. They also failed to take what chances came their way.
Irish international Doherty, pictured right, was the main culprit in the first half, missing a one-on-one chance after being released by Etherington and then opting to cross rather than shoot when well placed.
Vega should also have done better with a header from a corner in the second half and Neale Fenn, Etherington and Dave McEwen all went close but failed to make the breakthrough. At the other end, Walker had to be on his toes to deny the home side in a one-on-one opportunity.
Hughton admitted: "Overall I'm not that pleased. If you look at our overall performance I would say I'm reasonably happy with the result but with the quality of the side we had out we should really have done better.
"We came up against a very young, hard-working Wimbledon side who closed us down all night and made it very hard for us to create chances. They were fit and determined and made it difficult for us to play."
Spurs Reserves: Walker, Hillier, Vega, Young, Thelwell, Piercy (Gower 65), Davies, Toner, Etherington, Kamanan (McEwen 60), Doherty (Fenn 75).
