Reserves face Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Our reserve side travel to London Colney for a tough pre-season assignment behind closed doors against Arsenal.
Following a 3-1 defeat to Barnet on Saturday in their opening preparation game, the second string will be seeking to add a positive scoreline to increased fitness levels at the training ground of our nearest rivals.
With the first team preparing for a friendly at Portsmouth on Wednesday evening, coach Theo Foley is taking a young side to his one-time employers.
"Most of the first team are down on the South Coast before the game with Portsmouth," said Theo. "We’ve got Alton Thelwell, John Piercy, Gavin Kelly and Matthew Etherington — those are probably the only ones with any experience that we have.
"It’s a good test for us and it will be interesting to see how we go against Arsenal. I don’t know what sort of team they will have out."
Matthew Etherington was withdrawn from the action on Saturday with a sore hamstring, but Theo is confident he will be fit to play.
"Matt is fine. He has got a bit of a hamstring niggle — nothing bad — we took him off on Saturday with about ten minutes to go."
While Theo is obviously keen to secure decent results in pre-season, he insists that, at this point, gaining fitness is the all-important issue.
"That’s the thing we are looking for at this stage of the season. Some of our boys have only played 20 minutes or even less and some of the younger ones I don’t think have played at all. So, all in all, it will be interesting if we can play the game and stay injury free."
Even though the game is being played behind closed doors, the official site will be there to cover the action - check back on Wednesday for full details.
