Reserves back at the Lane
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Chris Hughton expects White Hart Lane to bring the best out of his reserve team on Tuesday night.
And Hughton’s men will have a couple of things to put right when they play host to Southampton in the FA Premier Reserve League (7pm).
First of all they will want to erase the memory of their opening game of six at the Lane this season when Chelsea completed a smash and grab 2-1 win.
Then there’s the more recent memory of their last league outing — a 5-0 drubbing at Charlton a fortnight ago.
Boss Hughton said: “It’s nice to have another opportunity to play at White Hart Lane.
“It means a lot to everyone - the younger players who don’t get the opportunity to play there that often and as for the squad players, it should give then a bigger life than playing anywhere else.
“In our first game here it wasn’t so much the performance against Chelsea, more the result and the fashion in which we conceded the two goals. That’s what was disappointing. The application in the game wasn’t too bad. In truth, we didn’t deserve to lose.”
The same cannot be said of the hammering at The Valley. A strong-looking side was well beaten that night but Hughton has been pleased with the reaction since, which included a 3-0 friendly win at Stevenage Borough last week.
“The beauty about our game is that another game is always around the corner and with it an opportunity to put things right,” he added.
“I was delighted with Stevenage Borough but with all due respects to them they are a non-league outfit and I would expect us to go there and apply ourselves well.
“We’re back in league action and I expect a performance certainly better than Charlton and if that takes us to a win, that’s great. It’s all about application and players wanting to play.”
