Clive Allen offers his assessment on the individual progress made by those in his Reserve Team group over the course of season 2006-07...Joe Martin (2 appearances / 2 sub)
Joe had injuries himself and his season was interrupted. Therefore his chances were a little bit limited with the reserve group, but he always did well when called upon.
Kieran McKenna (13 appearances, 3 goals)
Kieran showed everything he is capable of in terms of his great energy and enthusiasm for the game. He chipped in with important goals and, as you would expect, always gave everything he's got and turned in some very, very good performances. He has been flirting with the First Team picture and I think he made good progress.
Leigh Mills (13 appearances / 1 sub)
Millsy went about the season in what you would describe as a quiet way. He was still able to play for the Academy, which he did, and combined that with a very good run of performances at the end of the season - I think he has grown in confidence with that. Within the reserves he looks at home, he's been consistent and he's very determined when it comes to making progress. I think he has done that, having played with a number of different partners at centre half.
Takura Mtandari (1 appearance / 2 sub)
Takura has had a taste of it and, as with all the boys who stepped up from the Academy, he showed he was ready for it and he did well.
Jamie O'Hara (13 appearances, 3 goals)
Jamie, I know, is highly ambitious and was involved with the First Team squad as the season wore on and deservedly so. He matured in terms of his level of performances for the reserves because, again like Phil Ifil, he had tasted senior football having been away on loan. You always wonder how they will react when they come back into the reserve group, but Jamie grew into the role of being a more experienced player and a leader of the younger ones. I think he had a very good season.
