Reserve report - Spurs 3-1 Wimbledon

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

A stunning goal from Milenko Acimovic and strikes from Rohan Ricketts and Mark Yeates sealed a win for the reserves in their final home game of the season against Wimbledon.

Spurs had just too much for a game Wimbledon side and matched the two-goal winning margin enjoyed in the reverse fixture at Kingstonian.

Colin Calderwood set out his side in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Perry, Thelwell and Doherty operating in central defence, flanked by Marney and Etherington. Toda and Blondel occupied central midfield, while Acimovic and Ricketts played just off frontman Iversen.

It was Spurs who looked the most threatening in the opening ten minutes, Ricketts shot wide after a mazy run from Etherington, then Blondel doing similar after great work by Marney and Etherington.

Ricketts had another chance to test the keep on 12 minutes following clever play by Etherington but shot wide of visiting keeper Berni's left hand post.

Eight minutes later Gier was forced to clear off the line from a lofted shot by Acimovic after Iversen caused a degree of mayhem from and Etherington cross.

Sullivan was largely untroubled, but reacted smartly to save from Kamara and then blocked bravely at the feet of Gordon.

Calderwood was forced into a change on 25 minutes when Etherington departed after receiving treatment and Mark Hughes was introduced. Blondel moved out to the left, with Hughes slotting into central midfield.

Spurs took the lead on 35 minutes from a superb piece of improvisation from Acimovic. Wimbledon failed to successfully clear their lines and the ball bounced back towards goal with Milo and two defenders either side giving chase. The Slovenian, from about 20 yards out, stretched out a boot and lashed an unstoppable shot over the head of keeper Berni and into the net.

In the next move of the match, Wimbledon left midfielder Jarrett shot just wide of Sullivan's top left hand corner.

The lead was doubled after 38 minutes when Toda delivered a chip into the penalty area and, while Wimbledon stopped looking for a flag, the unmarked Ricketts shot beyond Berni.

Marney and Acimovic then combined before the goalscorer whipped in a cross for Iversen, whose powerful header went a fraction wide.

There was a further change after half-time when Ben Bowditch replaced Doherty. Hughes switched to the right of defence with Bowditch taking his place in central midfield.

The second half was fairly evenly contested and Wimbledon were awarded a penalty on 61 minutes following a Thelwell foul on Ahmed. Sullivan saved and held Ahmed's spotkick low to his right.

Marney nearly made it three five minutes later when he broke down the right, worked himself an angle and curled just wide of the far post with the keeper beaten.

Ricketts, victim of a heavy challenge moments earlier, was deemed unfit to continue on 71 minutes and Mark Yeates entered play for the final stages.

Spurs asserted vitual control in the final 15 minutes, establishing a grip on the game that Wimbledon could not loosen.

That control was emphasised by Yeates, who dazzled the Wimbledon rearguard before shooting past Berni to score his second reserve goal in two games on 81 minutes.

Gordon netted a consolation for the Dons when his fired past Sullivan with two minutes left on the clock.
