Reserve report: Chelsea 0-2 Spurs

FA Premier Reserve League South

It was a night of firsts as the reserves overcame Chelsea by a 2-0 scoreline at Aldershot on Monday evening.

Milenko Acimovic scored his first goal for the club and young striker Jamie Slabber netted his first in competitive action for the second string.

In front of a crowd approaching 4,000 at the Recreation Ground, Acimovic broke the deadlock after just four minutes. Having picked the ball up towards the right of the Chelsea penalty area, the Slovenian embarked on a mazy dribble before working an opening to curl a delightful effort past home keeper Rhys Evans.

Two nearly came along at once when Slabber was felled in the area by Steven Watt and Acimovic took up penalty taking duties. It was not to be and Evans saved smartly low to his right.

Not deterred, Acimovic was running the show, showing flashes of breathtaking skill. Another first half effort cleared the bar before Carlton Cole shot just wide for Chelsea.

Slabber missed narrowly as half-time neared and the returning Jonathan Blondel was denied by an excellent save from Evans.

Neil Sullivan's first real action came right on the break when a Scott Cousins cross was met with a powerful header by German under-20 international Sebastian Kneissl, which was acrobatically tipped over the bar.

Chelsea upped their game in the second half and Sullivan was called on to deny efforts from Cole and Kneissl. His best piece of work was a double save when Kneissl shot from the right and Cousins fired in from the other side.

Spurs regrouped and set about sealing the game. A Dean Marney shot was blocked by Watt before substitute Rohan Ricketts and Acimovic combined for the Slovenian to attempt another curler that Evans, this time, saved.

The game was up in the 82nd minute when a clearance from Sullivan was smartly helped on by Ricketts into the path of Slabber. The striker accelerated, drifted right and dispatched his shot expertly past Evans and into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

Spurs: Sullivan, Marney, Galbraith, Bowditch (Foster 82), Thelwell, Henry, Blondel, Toda (Ricketts 62), Slabber, Acimovic (Price 86), Hughes, Subs not used: G Kelly, Snee.
