Reserve report

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Our reserve side fell to a 1-0 defeat to Ipswich Town on Wednesday evening in a scrappy encounter at Portman Road.

It was a game of very few clear chances and most of what was created was by the home side, who nearly went ahead in the opening minute when Pablo Counago played in Billy Clarke, whose shot beat Radek Cerny but trickled just past his right hand post.

In the first period of the game there was some neat football played by both teams but a cutting edge was definitely lacking and it was not until the 22nd minutes that Cerny was bought into action again when Clarke had another go - this time from 20 yards - and the goalkeeper fielded comfortably.

After that the first period was pretty much devoid of inspiration before Mark Yeates was found in a good position in the area ten minutes before the break, but blazed his shot wide.

Four minutes later Ipswich scored the decisive goal. A cross from Clarke was punched away by Cerny but only as far as Owen Garvan who fired the ball back into the net from roughly the edge of the area.

Clive Allen would have been seeking a definite improvement in the second half but, in terms of chances, he would not have been happy with the return.

Attacking prompts were generally thwarted by the assistant referee's flag and it wasn't until the 57th minutes that the boys came close to finding a leveller when an angled cross from Johnnie Jackson so nearly found the bottom corner of the net after evading several heads on route.

Clive made a change on the hour, bringing on central midfielder Jamie O'Hara in place of Spase Dilevski. The team kept probing but that final ball would just not fall in our favour.

Our best chance of the night came on 78 minutes when Jackson found Mounir El Hamdaoui to the right of the area, giving him a clear run on goal before his shot was denied by the legs of home keeper Shane Supple. A Jackson free-kick worked the keeper four minutes later but it was not to be in a game that will not live long in the memory.
