Clive Allen feels there is definite room for improvement after his Spurs XI side emerged from a tough encounter with Grays Athletic with a 3-2 victory.Leigh Mills, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Adel Taarabt were on the scoresheet but, in a feisty contest, the win was far from routine.

"It was a different type of test, very competitive on a difficult surface - but we had to deal with it," reacted Clive afterwards. "In certain situations we played with some quality, but we did make it very difficult for ourselves and mistakes cost us with giving free-kicks away around the edge of our penalty area.

"With quality play, when we were incisive and got in behind them, we caused them some problems, but we were very disappointed to concede two goals.

"I am far from satisfied given the standards we have set ourselves. We didn't reach them, although there are certain reasons for that. It is pre-season, there are a few weeks until we play our first game and sometimes a lot of good can come from evenings like this.

"We picked up more fitness and it was an evening where we won the game, but without the performance I was looking for."
