Reserve reaction

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Clive Allen knew his reserve side was in for a tough test against Crystal Palace, but was left frustrated not to win following the 1-1 draw at Stevenage.

After a number of near misses, Lee Barnard shot us into the lead with a fine finish just before the break but the boys paid the price for not adding to their advantage when Dougie Freedman netted a similar strike on 65 minutes.

Both teams fielded a number of players with first team experience and Palace named several of their new recruits in their starting line-up, such as striker Nicola Ventola, Gonzalo Sorondo and Ivan Kaviedes.

It was never going to be an easy night for our side, which featured Anthony Gardner, Goran Bunjevcevic, Philip Ifil, OJ Mabizela, Johnnie Jackson, Simon Davies and new boy Reto Ziegler.

"Absolutely, I said to the lads that they would be in for a game and it was a good game for them," reflected Clive. "For the senior boys coming back into this team it was a test and what you would expect from a reserve game played in the right way.

"I'm disappointed because we were one in front, we controlled the game and I felt it was for us to lose or draw rather than for them to win it and that was the case.

"There were lots of chances again and I would just like for us to be a little bit more ruthless in front of goal, take those chances and kill teams off. I felt we were capable of doing that, but you pay the price for giving that one chance and the likes of Dougie Freedman will take those sort of chances.

"It was a good finish, but it was disappointing for us not to run out winners considering the amount of chances we had."
