Clive Allen described last night reserve draw against Watford as 'an ugly game'.
Goalscoring opportunities were at a premium at Stevenage Borough as Paul O'Donoghue headed us into the lead after 40 minutes only for Jason Norville to level just before half-time.
The second half was a scrappy encounter and neither side really looked like
"We had a similar game at Vicarage Road earlier in the season," said Clive. "We came out on top of that one with a late winner and this game was scrappy throughout.
"We never got the ball down and it was always going to be difficult.
"There were very few chances although I thought there were plus points in terms of our set-piece plays with good deliveries and that's where our goal came from with a good header from Paul O'Donoghue.
"Again we paid the price for some sloppy defending just before half time so instead of coming in ahead and elated, we came in a little flat.
"As I said to the lads, they battled very hard but didn't produce the quality we needed in the final third.
"I just feel when the game is so fast and frenetic that invariably you get into the final third and it's very difficult to produce the quality you need to create goals."
It's been a somewhat tricky spell for the reserves with an unlucky defeat at Charlton, a late postponement against Coventry, a poor display and defeat at Portsmouth and now this draw.
Clive added: "I'm not going to make excuses other than to say we've had opportunities to score goals and win games and we've not taken them.
"Whatever level you play at you make it easier for yourself by putting the ball in the back of the net.
"We've had good play that hasn't been rewarded with goals but you have to keep striving to create the chances and I'm sure we'll score a number of goals in a game soon."
