Report: Spurs 3-2 Coventry

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Sergei Rebrov scores the winner as the reserves fought back from 2-0 down to triumph over Coventry at Stevenage Borough.

Two goals down just after the break, a change in formation sparked a recovery full of character and no little skill. Tim Sherwood, with his third goal in two reserve games, and Yannick Kamanan laid the platform for Sergei's winner.

A late team change saw Matthew Etherington replaced by Ciaran Toner, who lined up in a three-man midfield Tim Sherwood and John Piercy.

Oyvind Leonhardsen and Ben Thatcher played right and left wing-back respectively, flanking Alton Thelwell, Goran Bunjevcevic (complete with mask) and Anthony Gardner. Sergei and Yannick Kamanan provided the attacking threat.

Sherwood came closest to breaking the deadlock on five minutes when a deft lay-off by Sergei was met on the half-volley by Tim and he was narrowly over with his effort. A Thatcher through ball was then just slightly too strong for Kamanan.

Keller was then called into action, throwing himself in the way of a McSheffrey blaster from ten yards. Then, on the ten minute mark, Sergei had a lofted effort disallowed for an infringement earlier in the play.

The match entered a scrappy phase as the clock indicated 25 minutes play, Coventry were beginning to press and make in-roads into our defences, bringing out the best of the elegant Gardner.

Coventry pressure brought its reward on 28 minutes, a free-kick was deflected into the path of visiting skipper Calun Davenport and, with Keller stranded, he buried the ball home.

Ten minutes before the break McSheffrey spurned a glorious opportunity to double the lead. A huge clearance by goalkeeper Brush cleared our back line and McSheffrey sprung the offside trap, but shot just wide of Keller's right hand post.

Just after the interval Sherwood fed Kamanan with a delightful through ball, Yannick used his pace to good effect, but over ran the ball slightly and the chance was lost.

It was Coventry though who increased their lead seven minutes into the second half. Zuniga took aim from 25 yards with a shot that looked destined for the top corner. Keller reached and seemed, at first glance, to have made a spectacular save, but the ball clipped the woodwork and landed behind Kasey and over the line.

Sherwood reduced the deficit on 58 minutes, forcing a route through into the penalty area and, after being initially blocked by Brush, converting the rebound from an angle.

Spurs appeared to switch to a 4-4-2 formation in the second half, with Leonhardsen pushing on and Thelwell dropping into the right-back position.

The change certainly seemed to invigorate proceedings and Spurs looked much sharper going forward with Tim, Sergei and Leo posing problems for the Coventry rearguard.

Kamanan, with a burst down the right, forced Brush to save at full stretch with a driving shot. However, it was Tim who nearly levelled on 70 minutes. Kamanan raced down the left this time and put over a teasing low cross which evaded the retreating Coventry defenders. Tim reached it at full stretch, but dinked over with the keeper beaten.

Yannick got his reward on 73 minutes, sprinting through the middle and dispatching a powerful low shot past Brush. Then the tables were completely turned two minutes later when Sergei accepted an inviting Sherwood header to the right of the penalty spot, Sergei did not look like he was going to miss and didn't disappoint, blasting past the helpless Brush in the Coventry goal.
