Report: Spurs 1-1 Partizan Belgrade

Jermain Defoe continued his superb goalscoring form in pre-season as we lost our Kappa Cup play-off in a sudden death penalty shoot-out in Seville.

The striker made it six goals in seven pre-season appearances with a typical Defoe goal in the first half.

However, Partizan Belgrade equalised in one of few notable attacks in the second half and went on to win via a sudden death penalty shoot-out that consisted of one penalty each - Johnnie Jackson saw his saved, Vukcevic netted the winner.

Defoe caught the eye again but otherwise two youngsters provided the highlight of a stop-start affair played in 34 degree heat on an unconvincing pitch at the Olympic Stadium.

Phil Ifil, just 17, made the most of his chance at right-back while Mark Hughes added a no-fuss passing game to his usual non-stop energy in midfield.

Defoe had already seen one effort saved by Kralj when he opened the scoring after 42 minutes. Triallist Edson Silva flicked on a clearance, Defoe pounced and as he looked up, saw Kralj rushing out of his area - he simply lobbed over the keeper's head and home from 22 yards.

Defoe was busy again at the start of the second half - one shot saved at full length, a penalty appeal waved away - but Partizan managed to pull level after 51 minutes.

Full-back Emeghara tossed the ball in from the left, Boya chested down for Ilic and Robinson produced a point-blank only for Boya to bundle the rebound home from close range.

Apart from a couple of raids from Ifil, numerous substitutions helped ensure that was about that in terms of action.

The game went into a sudden death penalty shoot-out and Jackson saw his penalty saved by Pantic before Vukcevic sent Robinson the wrong way to secure third place.
