Report: Blues 1-1 Spurs

English Barclays Premiership

Jeff Kenna got the seven-year itch to deny us maximum points at St Andrews.

The City skipper turned City slicker with his first Premiership goal in seven years to cancel out Teddy Sheringham's 55th minute opener.

To be fair, it was no less than the energetic home side deserved after a dire first half came alive for 20 minutes after the break.

The first half was instantly forgettable.

City had two decent chances, we had one shot at goal and the rest of the half was a mixture of tackles, misplaced passes and shots going astray.

The chance of the half arrived after just seven minutes. Stern John raced onto Clinton Morrison's clever flick but his attempt to lob Kasey Keller barely reached the keeper.

Christian Ziege, the lively Paul Devlin and Robbie Savage, much to the delight of our travelling fans, all shot into the crowd before Dean Richards, with Darren Purse all over him, headed Darren Anderton's corner over.

Steve Carr produced our best moment just before the break, a 30-yard run and shot straight at Nico Vaesen, but there was still time for Morrison to slice wildly over after John's knock down.

The second half was a vast improvement. City started well as Cisse forced the first decent save of the match out of Keller but we got our noses in front after 55 minutes.

Anderton provided the class with a pinpoint crossfield pass to Ziege, he whipped in a low cross that was too hot for Vaesen to handle and Sheringham tapped home the loose ball.

Vaesen did much better when tested again by Ziege's fierce drive, tipping around the post at full stretch and dealt well with the German's vicious in-swinging corner under pressure from Robbie Keane.

City regrouped though and came again. Savage and John might have done better before Kenna levelled in style, cutting in from the left and driving into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Morrison and Cisse then missed the target, Morrison forced a low save from Keller and, in the last minute, Richards appeared to know little when Ziege's wicked free-kick caught him and went straight at Vaesen.

7mins: CHANCE. Morrison flick through to John, through on Keller, tame attempt at lob save comfortably.

8mins: Ziege first-time shot from 22 yards, left side of box, well wide.

21mins: Decent effort from Devlin, 30 yards out, but always rising.

24mins: Savage volleyed into the delighted away fans from 25 yards.

29mins: YELLOW. Cisse for foul on Freund.

35mins: Richards, under pressure, headed over Anderton's corner.

42mins: Carr dribble, dummy to shoot bought by a couple of defenders, eventually let fly with left foot but straight at Vaesen.

45mins: CHANCE. Deep Devlin cross headed back into danger zone by John but Morrison sliced shot into the stand from eight yards.

Half-time: Birmingham 0-0 Spurs

46mins: Dangerous ball across goal from Cisse but no-one there to provide finishing touch.

49mins: Tebily fierce drive from 30 yards, right-hand side, forced first decent save of the game from Keller.

55mins: GOAL. Superb pass from Anderton picked out Ziege down left, low cross pushed away from Keane by Vaesen but Sheringham there to mop up from close range. 1-0.

56mins: John, always stretching, headed Devlin's cross over from eight yards.

57mins: SAVE. Ziege break down the left, had Keane in support but opted to shoot, raking effort from left edge of box tipped around the post by Vaesen.

62mins: Savage one-two with Morrison, shot straight at Keller from 18 yards.

65mins: CHANCE. John weak header straight at Keller from six yards from Lazaridis' fine cross.

67mins: GOAL. Kenna cut in from left and hit low drive into bottom left corner, might have been deflected slightly. 1-1.

68mins: Poyet volleyed a yard over from edge of area.

75mins: Ball laid back to Cisse who curled over from 20 yards.

76mins: Morrison headed Johnson's cross wide from 10 yards.

87mins: Savage played through Hughes, he found Morrison, right angle of area, low shot saved comfortably by Keller.
