Remembering Nick Kyrgios' visit
28 June 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Tennis star and Spurs fan Nick Kyrgios hailed an “awesome” opportunity to see our first team players at close quarters when he visited our Training Centre back in November.
The 20-year-old Australian stole the limelight when he beat the likes of Richard Gasquet and world number one Rafael Nadal en route to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2014.
Now, as he prepares to meet 22-year-old Argentine Diego Schwartzman in the opening round of matches at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, the rising star will be targeting another positive run – having also reached the last eight at the Australian Open back in January.
During his visit to Hotspur Way last season, Nick was presented with his own personalised Spurs shirt as he watched Mauricio Pochettino put the players through their paces.
And he revealed at the time how, like many of our Australian fans, he’s been known to stay up until the early hours of the morning to watch the team play – when his own training schedule allows, of course!
“Whenever Spurs are playing I try to watch them, even with the time difference in Australia,” he told us when he stopped by at the Training Centre on November 14, 2014. “The last match I watched was about 2am in the morning!
“It was awesome seeing the players and the training facility – I’ve never seen anything like it before.”
Day One at Wimbledon 2015 is tomorrow (Monday, June 29).
