Record amount raised for Royal British Legion

04 February 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

The Club is delighted to announce that a record total of over £50,000 has been raised for The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal thanks to our fans who supported this season’s fundraising campaign around Remembrance.

Mauricio Pochettino presented a giant cheque to Captain Tim Fleming MBE on behalf of the Royal British Legion (RBL).

Captain Fleming, a lifelong Spurs fan, was recognised in the 2015 New Year’s Honours list for the support he has given to Army families who have lost loved ones, including the family of the murdered soldier Fusilier Lee Rigby.

Before taking up his current post, Tim was an HGV driver for a large brewery. Now he is the Regimental Operations Support Officer for 4th Battalion the Parachute Regiment (4 PARA), based in Thornbury Barracks, in Leeds.

More than £50,000 was raised by the Club through an online auction of special edition signed poppy shirts worn by players during our fixture against Arsenal on Remembrance Sunday, the sales of a limited edition Tottenham Hotspur Poppy Pin Badge and donations made to the poppy sellers at White Hart Lane by our fans.

Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen wore poppy-branded boots for the game that were added to the auction along with Hugo’s poppy emblazoned gloves.

All of the funds raised this year will help the RBL in supporting today’s generation of Armed Forces families and veterans, whether living with an injury or illness, coping with bereavement or finding employment.

The RBL is the nation's biggest Armed Forces charity providing care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces past and present and their families. It also funds research into blast injury studies, provides holidays at Legion owned seaside centres around the UK, delivers specialist dementia support and theatre recovery projects.

The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank our fans for making such a significant contribution to this worthy cause.
