Reaping the benefits
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Colin Calderwood recognises the changes in training techniques in 'modern-day' football and believes the game is much better for it.
Our reserve team boss certainly pounded the pre-season miles in his 20 years as a professional.
He is now on the other side of the fence and says modern-day players are reaping the benefits from the more scientific approach to training and fitness.
Colin, thoroughly enjoying his first week back with his new charges, explained: "I think it's changed completely from what we used to do. There is a lot more science involved with the running, the amount of running you do and why you are running for that length of time.
"All the information is brought together and used in a better way than it was used before.
"Whatever physical training you do you are going to get fit, but if you can do it with the science behind it you give yourself the best opportunity to develop your body in a way that is not just alright for the week ahead, but the months ahead.
"The game is better for it. Players are overall physically much better now and players like me and people that played 20 years before me would have benefitted from a different sort of training.
"It's not talking anyone down from years ago, it's just that people now are given the opportunity to be in a physically better condition."
