Ready Teddy go
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
While admitting that pre-season is all about fitness and the honing of formation and tactics, Glenn reserved a special mention for Teddy after his first game since returning to the club.
Teddy broke the deadlock in the scoring against Wycombe at Adams Park after good work from his striking sidekick Les Ferdinand. The England international was the class act on the field in first half and opened his account in the second, and had Wycombe assistant manager Terry Gibson purring: "He's not much older than me!"
Glenn for one was pleased with his contribution in his first match with his new team-mates.
"I'm pleased with him, it was his first knock and it was good," commented Glenn. "He's coming back to a club that he's used to, but he's not used to the individuals. He's played with a couple of them, but not many of them, so it's all about getting used to a new style of player and linking in with them.
"We've got Teddy on board because we know exactly what he can give us, he showed a touch of that today. He's had ten days training with us.
Recalling a World Cup game for England against Georgia and his dislike for the term 'rotation', Glenn added: "Teddy has played with Les and Darren for England that's for sure. What we have got is competition for places in the attacking third. We've got players that can come on, that can start. I don't like the word rotation, it doesn't mean much to me, it's about what individuals, or what combination of individuals can cause whatever opposition you are playing problems. For me it won't be rotation, it will be whatever we feel it is suited to what we feel is needed on any given day."
Glenn declared himself happy with the way preparation has gone so far, but points out that it is a slow process towards being ready on day one of the new season.
"Pre-season's all about getting fitness, trying to get through without injury and working on the defensive side of the game and the offensive side. Our games so far have been good and a lot of good things that we've seen that we have to identify and there are a lot of positive things that we can continue to work on - so it's building up nicely.
"It's slowly getting there, but you're never there anyway - that's the beauty of the game. We're working at certain things and it's going to take a lot longer than just the pre-season that's for sure."
Christian Ziege was delighted to make his debut for the club after coming on as substitute. "It was good to get out there and play for Spurs, to wear the shirt. I hope we carry on winning!"
Our reserve side were defeated 3-1 at Barnet in their first pre-season outing - reaction from Theo Foley and the players to follow on Monday.
