Reading U21s v Spurs - Ugo's preview

03 March 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Ugo Ehiogu has challenged our Under-21s to show how much they’ve improved since we last faced Reading when we return to Barclays Under-21 Premier League action against the Royals tonight (Thursday, March 3).

The 4-1 home defeat we suffered against this evening’s opponents back in September was a particularly low point in our youngsters’ campaign, but since then we’ve seen some improved performances – most recently in a pair of training ground friendlies against Cardiff City and Birmingham City, which we won 4-0 and 3-0 respectively.

Ahead of the return match against the Royals tonight, being staged at Wycombe Wanderers’ Adams Park, Under-21s Coach Ugo is keen to see the boys carry over their good work of late into a competitive league game and do themselves justice throughout the 90 minutes.

“The home defeat to Reading in September was probably a turning point for us with the manner in which we lost that game but we are a completely different animal this time,” he said.

“Like everything, though, the boys have got to prove it in the game and I’ve no doubt that they’ll do that.

“Pretty much every game is similar in that there’s a high level of competitiveness so we’ll be looking for our players to take their good work from the last two friendlies and in training on into the Reading game. That includes being more creative in the final third, being more daring and effective and also tightening up at the back.

“The boys have responded really well in the last few weeks and as long as they take all of those components into the Reading game we won’t have any regrets."

Kick-off at Adams Park tonight is scheduled for 7pm. Follow us on Twitter @SpursOfficial for live updates.

Squad: McDermott, Whiteman, Amos, Bentaleb, Edwards, Georgiou, Goddard, Lesniak, Maghoma, Miller, Owens, J Pritchard, Sonupe, Stylianides, Walker-Peters, Walkes.
