Ray Clemence

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

The club would like to wish Ray Clemence all the best in his fight against prostate cancer.

Capped 61 times by England, legendary former Liverpool goalkeeper Ray actually played over 400 games in all competitions at White Hart Lane and was twice in teams that went for glory on all three domestic fronts.

Ray has been working with the Football Association since 1996 and is now England’s senior national goalkeeping coach.

He is currently taking a break before undergoing treatment and will not be with the England squad for the Holland fixture on February 9.

He said: "The news I have had from the doctors so far has been very positive and encouraging.

"I’m looking forward to getting the treatment out of the way and returning to work as soon as possible."

In Ray's first season at Spurs, 1981-82, we lost out to Liverpool in the League Cup Final, reached the semi-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup and finished fourth in Division One before winning the FA Cup for the second-successive year.

Then, in 1986-87, we were third in Division One, beaten semi-finalists in the League Cup and beaten finalists in the FA Cup.

England Head Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said: "Everyone wishes Ray a speedy recovery. His enthusiasm and expertise are very important for England at every level."
