Our reserves suffered a rare defeat - their first this season - as a late winner saw Chelsea bag the spoils at Stevenage on Monday night.

Phil Younghusband did the damage with just seven minutes left, latching onto a defensive lapse to fire home the winner from 12 yards.

It was our first league loss since Southampton away in February last year and a frst defeat at home since Leicester City back in November 2005.

Clive handed competitive debuts to both goalkeeper Ben Alnwick and midfielder Adel Taarabt, while Charlie Lee and Mark Yeates were available to him again after loan spells at Millwall and Hull City respectively. Others in the side with first team experience were Phil Ifil, Reto Ziegler and Andy Barcham.

Lee Barnard (ankle), Dorian Dervite (knee), Simon Dawkins (groin) and Charlie Daniels (illness) were missing as the team sought to extend an unbeaten record that stretches back for nearly a year.

Jamie O'Hara was not far away from opening the scoring with a clever curler on six minutes, visiting keeper Yves Ma-Kalambay scrambling across his goal before Alnwick got his hands warmed at the other end by Fabio Ferreira. Ziegler then was not far away with a free-kick from the right-hand corner of the penalty area.

Chelsea came more into it as our side struggled to make the ball stick up front, but neither goalkeeper was being tested as the game became gridlocked in the middle of the park.

Alnwick was called into action with a smart block from Phil Younghusband five minutes before the break, which was reached without any further real incidents of note.

Just minutes into the second half Tomas Pekhart had the ball in the back of the net after good work from from Kieran McKenna and Yeates, but celebrations were thwarted by the flag of the assistant.

Leigh Mills could have scored with a fair bit of the goal showing from a Ziegler cross before Pekhart was bundled down sparking claims for a penalty - that were swiftly rejected. Yeates then fired in a drive that clipped the inside of Ma-Kalambay's leg before running to safety.

Chelsea were on the back foot as the boys chased victory, but there was a sting in the tail when Alnwick failed to gather a ball inside the area and Ziegler was slow to clear. When he did he passed across goal and Younghusband was the most alert and drilled into the net.

4mins: Bizarre moment as Ziegler whipped in free-kick from the left, Chelsea charged out and left at least four Spurs players in the box but there was no offside flag raised, Lee glanced header wide.

6mins: One-two between O'Hara and Yeates, tight for space but O'Hara managed to curl just wide from 25 yards.

8mins: Quick feet from Ferreira and decent strike from 20 yards straight at Alnwick.

12mins: Ziegler curled free-kick over from right corner of penalty box.

18mins: Ziegler broke up play in our half, chance to break, played one-two with Taarabt and was away but Hutchinson came over to make excellent covering tackle just outside box.

20mins: Barcham step over allowed Yeates to run at goal, took early shot from 25 yards that zipped just wide.

22mins: Barcham fired high and wide from 25 yards.

26mins: Alnwick forced to turn away Bertrand's corner from under his crossbar, ball eventually came out to Ferreira, who fired wide from 20 yards.

38mins: SAVE. Ferreira turn of pace in midfield, backheeled for Younghusband to drive fierce low shot that Alnwick did well to beat out diving to his left.

41mins: Alnwick darted out quickly to save at feet of Sahar.

Added time: CLOSE/SAVE? Fernandes cross found Sinclair at far post, lashed at goal from tight angle and ball flew inches over - corner awarded, so possible Alnwick touched over.

Half-time: Spurs 0, Chelsea 0

47mins: Yeates took off on run from in own half, twisted left and right, eventually shot from 18 yards blocked by Worley.

51mins: SAVE. Sahar flick sent Ferreira away down the right, cut inside Mills onto left foot, low shot blocked by Alnwick's feet.

56mins: Taarabt shot deflected and looped into Ma-Kalambay's hands.

63mins: Cork looping header from Bertrand corner landed on roof of net.

66mins: CHANCE. Ziegler deep free-kick to far post met by late-arriving Mills who nodded wide from six yards.

68mins: PENALTY? Pekhart released by Yeates into box, Worley and Cork slid in, Pekhart went down, appeals waved away.

73mins: SAVE. Yeates onto Pekhart's flick, ball running away from goal, struck firm shot that Ma-Kalambay did well to block with legs.

73mins: CLOSE. Decent Chelsea move ended with Woods side-stepping Ifil's tackle, central, 18 yards out, drilled a yard wide.

83mins: GOAL - CHELSEA. Alnwick parried Bridcutt's low shot, Ziegler failed to clear and Younghusband capitalised, slotting home inside the left post from 12 yards.
