Ramsey's praise for table-topping Under-21s
Chris Ramsey praised the attitude our Under-21s after the 6-0 demolition of Newcastle fired them to the top of Group Two of the Barclays U21 Premier League.
The result was never in doubt once Ryan Mason slotted home a penalty in the 17th minute and the lads were a joy to watch with their free-flowing, attacking football at the new Training Centre on Saturday.
Cristian Ceballos added the second and in a purple patch at the start of the second half, Dean Parrett, Alex Pritchard - a free-kick into the top corner - and Jon Obika stretched the lead from 2-0 to 5-0.
Obika had the final word in the last minute as the lads erased the memory of their defeat against the Magpies in their first match of new league - when they were 3-0 down in 15 minutes and 5-0 down at half-time before losing 6-4.
The team has just got better and better since then and top the table on a run of six matches unbeaten with four wins in the last five and three on the trot - scoring 31 goals already!
“It was another excellent performance,” said Chris, our Senior Professional Phase Coach.
“We’re delighted to have players like Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend with us, they’ve both been in the first team squad recently and their attitude when they play for the development squad is perfect, especially when we have younger players aspiring to do what they’ve done. Dean Parrett and Alex Pritchard were equally exceptional.
“We have a high standard at the club and the players are doing their best to impress.
“They are allowed to express themselves and some have broken into the first team - that’s what we’re here to do.”
