Ramsey reflects on rare U21 loss

Chris Ramsey described our Under-21s defeat at United on Monday as ‘one of those nights’.

Already qualified for the play-offs, it was only the team’s fifth defeat in 24 all season and the first time they’d failed to score in the Barclays U21 Premier League.

Ryan Tunnicliffe’s goal in the 56th minute proved the difference at the Salford City Stadium.

United created the better opportunities although Cristian Ceballos twice went close to breaking the deadlock, denied by home goalkeeper Ben Amos in the sixth minute and then striking the crossbar from a free-kick just before United’s goal.

“It wasn’t one of our better performances, but that can happen,” said Chris, our Senior Professional Phase Coach.

“Only one or two players really did themselves justice - Grant Hall and Lawrence Vigouroux were very good - but overall you would probably have to say United deserved to win the game.

“We weren’t as tight with our control and passing and that didn’t allow us to bring our individuals into the game.

“Having said that, we could have been ahead before United opened the scoring, but we didn’t create too much. It’s one of those performances where we’ll learn from it, put it behind us and move on. That’s the key.

“We’ll train hard this week and I’m sure the players will be right back on it next week.”

The ‘next week’ Chris eludes to is our next match – Arsenal at Barnet’s Underhill Stadium on Monday week, April 22.
