Ramon on Reto

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Ramon Vega has known Reto Ziegler since he was a young lad at Grasshoppers Zurich - he's delighted to see him on the full international stage and even happier he's at Spurs.

Now retired and working in finance, Ramon, born in Olten, Switzerland, made 84 appearances for us between 1997-2001 and starred in our League Cup win at Wembley Stadium in 1999.

He first came across a young Reto in his time at Grasshoppers before he went on his footballing journey to Cagliari in Italy, Spurs, Celtic and Watford.

"I've known Reto from a very young age," said Ramon, who actually met up with Reto in the game against City at the Lane last time out.

"He joined my club Grasshoppers, where I grew up as well. He's now had an early transfer to Spurs, earlier than when I moved but he's very mature and everyone sees that in him.

"He has good quality and he will only get better over the years. There are a few players of his age group coming through in Switzerland and they are fantastic players. And he definitely stands out.

"The fact he's playing in the Premier League is a big advantage and he's so mature for his age, you can see it, so calm on the ball.

"Everyone believes he can make it. I was one of the first Swiss players in the Premier League. I was like the flagship! It's great now Reto's at Spurs and I'm sure he will do well here."

As for his senior international call and debut against France on Saturday, Ramon, who scored against England in his Swiss career, added: "It's fantastic news for him and another asset for the Swiss squad. That's great for Spurs as well, another international and the future looks bright."
