Kieran Trippier pointed out the importance of Christian Eriksen’s equaliser to the overall result against Sunderland.
The Danish international midfielder produced an immediate response after Patrick van Aanholt’s opener for the Black Cats in the moments leading up to half-time at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Right-back Kieran, who came in for his second Premier League start in our colours at the expense of Kyle Walker, felt that strike gave us a timely boost and provided the platform on which to push on and win the game in the second period, courtesy of further goals from Mousa Dembele and Christian, plus a Harry Kane penalty.
“I thought it was important that we got the equaliser straight after they scored,” said the former Burnley man as he reflected on the 4-1 victory.
“It was massive, crucial, and after Christian got that goal we came in at half-time and said we needed to be patient because obviously Sunderland were sitting deep. We knew we had to get the next goal, obviously Mousa got that, they then had to come out and that’s when we got the third and fourth so we’re delighted to get the three points.”
As he did at Watford, Kieran produced another eye-catching performance under the Premier League spotlight, with the 25-year-old putting his good form down to keeping himself sharp in training.
“I just want to try to do my best every time I get an opportunity,” he said. “We always keep on top of our fitness work in training with the drills we do with the staff so that when we’re called upon, everyone’s fit and available.
“That’s not just me, it’s all the lads who have been on the bench so I’m delighted to get 90 minutes under my belt and now we’re looking forward to the next game against Leicester. Hopefully we’ll get the win there and progress through in the FA Cup. We want to go as far as we can.”
