Qarabag v Spurs - travel advice

25 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Travel advice and information for fans making the trip to Baku, Azerbaijan for our Europa League Group J match against FK Qarabag on Thursday night.

Baku is the largest city in the Caucasus, the capital of Azerbaijan and located on the coast of the Caspian Sea.

Fans travelling for our match against Qarabag will be impressed with a city that is modern with a new history but also has an old city with a number of cultural sites that are well worth a visit.

Public transport is easy to use, but always check taxi fares before getting into the car. Keep safe whilst walking on the streets and crossing roads and use the underground walkways - crossing a busy road when you could have used an underpass could attract a fine from the Traffic Police.

Baku is considered a safe city, but use common sense at all times. Only take out belongings that you need and use a hotel safe for important documents. Always keep a close watch on your personal belongings particularly when visiting crowded areas.

All goods and services are paid for in local currency - Manats. Sterling and US Dollars are easily exchanged and credit cards can be used, but you should advise your bank that you are travelling to Azerbaijan. For your personal safety and security, we would advise that you are vigilant and take sensible precautions at all times.

As always, we would ask you not to display flags or banners on historic buildings, statues or architecture, please respect the local laws and inhabitants.

Qarabag’s Stadium, the Tofiq Bahramov Adina Republika Stadium, is situated just off of Ataturk Prospekti.

On this road - just two minutes from the Stadium entrance - is the local McDonald’s where you can collect your ticket/s for the match.

Due to current security issues, we would ask that you please have photo ID with you when collecting.

Collection times are between 7pm and 9.15pm on the night of the match.

Please note that we are unable to arrange alternative collection points and you should call the Travel Line - 07971 880445 - if you experience problems collecting during this time.

At the main entrance, there is a large bank of turnstiles used for all fans, home and away. These turnstiles will open two hours before kick-off, which is at 10pm local time. Once through this point, you should make your way to Gate 12 in order to access Sector 28. There are welfare facilities and refreshment outlets on the concourse leading to the visitors’ area.

Searches will be undertaken by local police inside the turnstile point and please note that the usual prohibited items apply, including coins and lighters. Please be aware that it is likely that THFC fans will be held back for up to 20 minutes and we ask for your patience during this time. The police will only allow you to leave once the home fans have left the immediate area.

Flags and banners are welcome and these will be checked prior to entry. As always, please note that it is common policy and normal ground rules at football stadiums in the UK and elsewhere in Europe that flags of an overtly religious/sectarian/political nature will not be permitted and may be confiscated, please respect this request.

There will be THFC staff and stewards available on the night to assist you if required.

Remember to have the correct travel insurance prior to travelling. If you experience any problems whilst in Baku, please call the Travel Line - 07971 880445 - and we will endeavour to assist. This number is only available on the day of the match.

The Club is rightly proud of the good behaviour of our fans during previous European travels and we would ask that you uphold this and remember that you are an Ambassador for the Club and therefore we would respectfully request that you behave accordingly throughout the entirety of your stay.
