Qarabag v Spurs - form guide and facts

26 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

It's been just over two months since we first met FK Qarabag in Matchday One of the Europa League - here's the Azerbaijan champions' form guide, and a few facts...

Domestic form - Reigning champions and double-winners in 2015, Qarabag have stretched their lead to nine points in the Azerbaijan league.

Last time out - Qarabag beat Kapaz PFK 3-0 at home in the league on Saturday - Richard Almeida, Chumbinho and Dani Quintana on target.

Rare defeat - They've lost just once in the league, a 1-0 defeat at Sumqayit on October 25. They've won 10 of 13 games in the league.

Europa League - After losing 3-1 at the Lane, Qarabag have beaten Anderlecht and drawn against Monaco at home before a 1-0 defeat against the French side last time out.

Below: 90IN90 - all the action from September's match against Qarabag at the Lane in 90 seconds...

History - Our earlier meeting at the Lane was our first against Azerbaijan opponents and Qarabag's first against English opposition. They had earlier narrowly been beaten 1-0 over two legs in Champions League qualifying by Celtic.

Home sweet home for Qarabag - Qarabag are unbeaten in five European home fixtures this season (won two, drawn three). Indeed, when Ivan Cavaleiro levelled for Monaco in Matchday Four, it was the first goal Qarabag had conceded on home soil in European competition this term.

Long way from home - This fixture represents our longest-ever journey for a competitive match, just short of 4,000km.

Stadium - The Tofiq Bahramov Stadium is named after Tofiq Bahramov, the linesman and official from Azerbaijan (often referred to, incorrectly, as the 'Russian' linesman) who flagged to signal that Geoff Hurst's shot had crossed the line in the 1966 World Cup Final at Wembley. That made it 3-2 as England won 4-2.

Dangerman - Richard Almeida opened the scoring for Qarabag at the Lane in September and the Brazilian is their top goalscorer this term with four goals in six in Europe and six in 11 in the league.

KO round the target - Both ourselves and Monaco can qualify for the knockout stage of the Europa League with victories in Matchday Five - Monaco play host to Anderlecht this evening.
