Progress yielding goals, says Lewis

Lewis Holtby believes our pre-season scoring streak is a natural by-product of the players’ hard work under Mauricio Pochettino.

Our 6-1 victory against a youthful Celtic side in Helsinki last weekend took our overall summer tally to 14 goals.

Midfielder Lewis has been responsible for two of those, following up on his headed opener against Seattle Sounders by slotting home just before the interval against Celtic.

And having been joined on the scoresheet by five other players in Finland, the 23-year-old isn’t surprised to see the goals flying in as the squad gets used to Mauricio’s preferred tactics ahead of the new season.

“I’m pleased with my goal and everyone who scored one definitely deserved it,” said Lewis, reflecting on the Celtic win.

“We’re just trying to keep progressing as a team and develop our game with the pressing football which the manager demands from us. That’s the main thing at this stage.”
