Programme: Glenn Hoddle

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

We produced a fabulous team performance against Bolton here in midweek and now I want to see us build on that showing. Ironically it came on the back of a disappointing result at Derby where I felt that our passing was there, as it has been most games this season, but we lacked the cutting edge that we certainly demonstrated in the FA Cup.

Leicester are fighting for every single point down at the bottom and we have to make sure that we go into this game with the same desire that we showed in the cup.

You can certainly help us once again. It’s ironic that people say we are a cup team rather than a league outfit but the same can be said for our supporters!

Cup games really seem to lift our supporters but it’s also in games like today that we need to create an atmosphere in which our players will blossom. As usual, we will be trying to play well and to give you something to cheer about but sometimes fans have to recognise that this might be a game where we need their help.

They can make all the difference as you did against Chelsea in the Worthington Cup. Make no mistake, this is going to be a difficult game for us. Leicester should have beaten Chelsea last week and deserved to do so. And they did well away at Liverpool the week before so they’ve been putting in some good performances that we recognise and respect.

Harry would imagine that a win here would set them on their way and we have to make sure that we don’t do what we did for Ipswich. They went on a run after beating us here and that’s got to ring alarm bells because it can’t happen again. In short, we have to be ruthless.

So a warm welcome to Harry and his team. He’s been around in football for a long time and he is the man that Leicester believe can get them out of the difficulties that they find themselves in and they’ve got enough points on the board to enable them to do that. I wish them well after today.

Looking back at Bolton, that was always going to be difficult for us. There were many considerations in team selection with suspensions in mind and we had to get through that minefield with one eye on the cup final. We still have to be sensible in that respect but the priority is always the next game and it was nice to put out that changed side and see it perform as it did.

Matthew, in particular, and Ben, who hasn’t played for such a long time, came in and acquitted themselves very well in what was a very good team performance.
Congratulations also to our youngsters on an excellent result away from home against Leeds in the FA Youth Cup. Now we’ve got a home tie against Blackburn and that’s really something to look forward to. Well done to all involved and it’s great that the club can be successful in all these cups.

On the injury front, it is encouraging that some of the ‘long termers’ like Stephen Carr, Stephen Clemence, Gary Doherty and Chris Armstrong are all making headway, albeit slow at times, but they are working hard at regaining full fitness and we look forward to getting some of them back within the next month.

In closing, get behind the lads as you have shown you can and create the kind of atmosphere that will inspire us to victory this afternoon.
