Pride at stake
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Anthony Gardner insists that pride is at stake in the final two games of the season against Middlesbrough and Blackburn.
The elegant defender admits that the ending of the European dream is a disappointment for all, but says the determination is there to finish the season on a positive note.
"It is a bit disappointing now because we can't make Europe, but it is pride we are playing for now in these next two games," said Anthony at Spurs Lodge on Monday.
"We've got to get good results out of them and finish off on a high - we don't want to finish off with two defeats.
"We aim to win the next two games."
Anthony came off the bench against Manchester United on Sunday due to Dean Richards suffering an ankle injury and conceded that it is difficult task picking up the pace of the game.
"It is, everyone is already up and running. You warm up on the side, but everyone else is in the thick of it and it takes a while to get into the game - which is difficult when you are playing a team like Man Utd.
"You want to play but obviously you would prefer to start so you can get into the swing of things like everyone else. You could say the opposition has got a head start on you because they are warm and in the game."
A major challenge for him when he joined the action was attempting to shackle the prolific Ruud van Nistelrooy and Anthony doubts he has ever encountered such an in-form striker.
"I don't think so. He has been superb this year and has been in top form for a while. It is difficult and all you can do is try your best against him really. You know he is a world class striker and you know if he gets chances he will score like he did in the second half.
"You must be aware of him every second and minute of the game - you take your eye off him and he's gone. You see him doing it so many times, he's either spinning somebody, making a run or getting in behind - sometimes you've just got to hold your hands up."
