Premier League to show support for equality campaign this weekend
25 November 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
We join clubs around the UK this weekend in supporting the work of Stonewall to promote inclusion and equality in sport.
Stonewall is an organisation that aims to promote acceptance of the LGBT community both in England and overseas, with its work within football focusing on a ‘Rainbow Laces’ campaign in recent seasons.
All 10 Premier League fixtures this weekend will display rainbow perimeter board advertising, pre-match rainbow flags and a host of other activities to highlight the hard work undertaken by clubs and their supporter groups to welcome fans in their stadiums, regardless of sexual orientation.
In 2014, Proud Lilywhites became the Club’s first official LGBT supporters group, representing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender fanbase, since holding regular consultation and events with the Club.
Its co-Chair, Chris Paouros, said: “Proud Lilywhites has become one of the leaders of the LGBT football fan group movement and we were instrumental in founding the Pride in Football alliance of LGBT football fan groups in the U.K.
"Football is everyone's game and Proud Lilywhites fully supports Stonewall’s work in raising awareness and campaigning for LGBT fans to be safe and welcome in our beautiful game."
